I'm really interested in this question too. Recently a colleague and I built a prediction markets for science mini app on the Base platform called CastLab. The goal was to harness the excitement of betting to attract funding for science experiments on popular topics. In the app, you can bet some amount and fund some amount in the same smart contract (e.g. I bet $5 that treatment X doesn't work, and I'll put $10 towards crowdfunding the study on it). Kinda like a gofundme that has a betting option to make it more engaging

We won the Base Batches accelerator program, but in the end we didn't gget a ton of traction (maybe because we're bad at marketing), but I also think it's not a great business model and we'd need to pivot somehow if we're going to continue. The biggest risk imo is creating perverse incentives to do the science dishonestly.
